Hopcyn is our beautiful rescue dog , who until he was 9 years old spent his whole life in a very unpleasant farm, locked up as breeding dog. He came to us eight weeks ago, having ultimately reached a safe and caring rescue centre in South Wales. His beautiful curly coat was in rags, with infected ears and having had 21 broken teeth removed because they were infected as well as having raw sores and bare patches of skin on his back. The first few weeks were obviously traumatic for him, having never been in a house before , never having had bed of his own and how he managed to eat hard kibble and scraps and still survive is a miracle. He did not know where to go , where to stay - inside or out in the garden and our TV petrified him as did every knock at our front or other sudden noises.
Slowly , very slowly he settled - going out to toilet , eagerly eating his meals, but no walks because he was too afraid of what was happening around him outside and he would just try to eacape runnng around in circles. Sleeping was a problem too because he wanted a plain floor with no covering and a wall to lean against, curled up as tightly as possible. And then one night, suddenly he climbed into one of our little Yorkies' bed - body in but head and legs hanging ou t , no mean feat for a small standard poodle. Those beds were the wicker basket beds from your company, and Hopcyn is now the proud possessor of an equally suitable, very comfy and very smart looking extra large Prestige wicker bed after ignoring the cushions, soft mattress, large folded blankets and big fluffy bed we had been offering him !
The rest his story so far is also about the first bed we ordered for him being taken by Royal Mail when they came to collect a parcel to be returned to Amazon - - but Hopcyn ,whilst still hesitant about some things , is growing braver daily .- but we had already marked his attempted use of our Yorkies's medium beed as the fist attempt by him to show the way he was accepting his new life and was so good to see to see. And he loves his own extra big bed - most likely the first thing he could call his own and for us it was obviously the first bed he had ever had in nine years.
